About Me
I have been a therapist for over 8 years but worked in the mental health field for about 15 years. Although I come from a medical background, I believe that a holistic approach to mental health is the most useful. I enjoy working with individuals, couples and families to explore their feelings and process external and internal issues to come to a place of acceptance and self-compassion. My areas of expertise are anxiety, depression, mood disorders, and trauma. All of us have things in our lives that didn’t cause the trauma but trigger it, I can help you overcome these triggers.
I am passionate about educating people about small “t” trauma and big “T” trauma, because so often individuals don’t even recognize traumatic experiences as significant because “they could have had it worse.” Little “t” traumas are experiences that leave someone feeling hopeless. They are distressing events that can be beyond a person’s ability to cope, although they do not necessarily cause life-threatening or bodily-threatening outcomes. Some examples of little “t” traumas can include; infidelity, divorce, legal trouble, grief, interpersonal conflict, bullying, financial difficulty, chronic stress, living in an unsafe environment, or feeling unloved, worthless or unimportant. Big “T” traumas are the types of traumas that are deeply disturbing, life-threatening events or situations. some examples of these are being the witness to or victim of; violent crimes, abuse, war, natural disasters, serious car accidents, or death. Working through trauma is hard, it is often life long, but it is worth it. I can help you live your best life, regardless of your trauma history.
I am honored to work with all types of individuals. I know from my personal and professional experiences with trauma that people must have good habits firmly in place or bad habits will take over. I aim to educate and empower my clients within a safe, inclusive and nonjudgmental environment. Talk Therapy
Clients benefit from 1:1 psychotherapy because they are able to talk to someone who is trained to listen and really hear them. Talk therapy can help clients gain insight and change thinking and behavior patterns.
Somatic Therapy
Somatic therapies are about the mind body connection and clients can release trauma that has been stored in their body since pre-verbal memories were formed. Somatic therapy is great when client’s feel “stuck” with traditional therapy.
Trauma Therapy
Trauma Therapy includes education as well as coping skills to help clients better handle the psychological, emotional and physical impacts of traumatic events. I help clients process Big “T” Trauma and Little “t” Trauma.
